Candidates filing for local office
Letter from Donald P. Pyle
Congratulations on your decision to run for local office. Public service is a dedicated calling and I appreciate your willingness to run. Win or lose you will be better for the experience. Because of your willingness to serve your neighbors, this office will make available to you one copy, free of charge, of the name, address and Party affiliation of every registered voter in your district. Please ask a member of my staff to obtain this copy. I would recommend that you may want to receive the file by e-mail or on a Compact Disc in the format that best suits your needs. This offer extends until General Election Day and it is yours to use as you see fit with the caveat that the list can not be used to make profit as a point of state law.
Attached to this letter is a packet of information compiled by my staff. This packet includes information vital to your success as a candidate for office. By following some simple guidelines you can do a lot to keep yourself in compliance with state law. If at any time you have questions about governmental ethics requirements, filing protocol or the election process itself please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of my staff. If the answer is not readily available we will try to get you to the right place or we will find the answer for you.
When you file for local office by check it is perfectly appropriate to file using one check. Please make that check out to Crawford County Kansas and the County Treasurer will pay to the Governmental Ethics Commission all necessary fees. On one sheet in the packet you will notice a list of offices for which you can file. You will also notice the cost to file and the petition requirements. You will notice that the cost is broken down into two fees. As mentioned above, one check is suitable. Also, if you are filing by petition we can help you determine the number of signatures necessary to file for your party’s nomination and we can provide petition forms. Please note that every page of the petitions used must be notarized after being signed by the person carrying the petition.
If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact me and I will be most happy to visit with you in trying to get the appropriate answer. Best wishes on the campaign trail.
Sincerely,
Donald P. Pyle
